Martin Taylor's Spirit of Django (Instrumental)

Virtuoso guitarist Martin Taylor first came to prominence in the late 1970s through his collaborations with legendary violinist Stephane Grappelli. Now, he tours the world's concert halls with his dazzling live performances. Although inspired initially by Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, it was to be piano players, most notably Art Tatum and Bill Evans, who caught his imagination and set him on the path of developing his own individual style of solo playing!

Since the death of Joe Pass in 1994, Martin Taylor has become one of the most highly regarded guitarists in jazz. He was given his first guitar by his father, Buck Taylor. Although he was inspired at first by Django Reinhardt, it was piano players like Art Tatum that drew his attention and helped him practice to develop his phenomenal solo technique. In the late '70s, Stephane Grappelli invited him to play in a series of concerts in France. The violinist was so impressed that he used Taylor often on tours and a variety of recording dates. Beginning in 1990, Taylor began recording a number of acclaimed CDs for the U.K. label Linn, distributed as Honest/Linn in the U.S., and also did an excellent duet date with David Grisman for the mandolin player's Acoustic Disc label. All that is missing from Taylor's current roster of recordings is a live date, though an excellent concert video is available. In 2000, he released his debut on an American label, Columbia, entitled Kiss and Tell. Stepping Stones on Linn followed that same fall. (Ken Dryden, All Music Guide)

Jazz At the Weekend's, Jazz Moods

Concord Jazz was clever enough to realize that there are legions of jazz listeners that use the music as mood music, on occasion. Knowing this, the label compiled a whole series entitled Jazz Moods, designing each disc to fit a specific mood. With Jazz at Week's End, it's a collection of lightly swinging soul-jazz and cool jazz, ideal for relaxation. Some jazz purists may scoff at this idea, but they would likely be satisfied by the music itself, since the disc contains first-class performances from Ernestine Anderson, George Van Eps & Howard Alden, Marian McParland, Jeff Linsky, Hank Jons, Rosemary Clooney, Carol Sloane and Stan Getz, among others. They help make this a substantive collection, as well as one that is entertaining. But the highest compliment one can pay Jazz at Week's End is that it sounds like jazz that should be played at the end of the week. (Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide)

The Most Relaxing Piano Album in the World...Ever! (easy listening)

This is a love piano music. If you're looking to relax, enjoy a peaceful time, then you must check out this album. If you truly enjoy piano music, this album is by far one of the best you can purchase. As it says....it is the "Most Relaxing Piano Album in the World...Ever..." Well, I haven't listened to all piano albums in the world, but I don't need to, this one is just perfect for me, and I think you will agree! I would say the pianists' are extremely accomplished. At times, I would admit-it's a bit 'spine tingling'!

Vicente Amigo, Um Momento en el Sonido (flamengo)

2005 studio album from the young flamenco guitarist from Cordoba who the most likely successor to Paco de Lucia and is influenced by Stanley Jordan, John McLaughlin and Al DiMeola.

Vicente Amigo has been called "the natural continuation of Paco De Lucia". A former child prodigy, Amigo has continued to evolve as a musician and vocalist. In a 1998 interview, Amigo explained, "I believe that flamenco has always been something for adults, not just for children. To understand flamenco, you need maturity. You can learn to play the guitar as a child, you understand the technique. Also, of the singing, you can more or less understand the technique. But, the essence of flamenco is something that requires maturity". Amigo involvement with music began at a very young age. At the age of five, he studied with influential flamenco guitarist Merenque De Cordoba. By the age of fifteen, Amigo was attracting attention as a protege of Paco Pena. Although he launched his professional career as a member of a band, Manolo Sanlucar, Amigo has performed most of his concerts as a soloist. Amigo has also accompanied numerous vocalists including El Pele and Luis De Cordoba and dancers including Javier La Torre and Israel Galvan. Amigo collaborated with singer Jose Merce on an album, "De Amanacer". While flamenco remains the foundation of his sound, Amigo has been equally inspired by the jazz of Stanley Jordan, John McLaughlin and Al DiMeola. (Craig Harris, All Music Guide)

Self-described "rural folk piano" player George Winston was among the earliest and most successful proponents of the genre of contemporary instrumental music later dubbed new age. Although born in Michigan in 1949, he was raised primarily in Montana, the extreme seasonal changes he experienced there later greatly influencing the pastoral feel of his music. Even as a child, Winston preferred instrumental music over vocal performances, counting among his early heroes Booker T. & the MG's, Floyd Cramer, and the Ventures; he did not take up music until after high school, however, beginning with organ and electric piano but moving to acoustic piano by 1971.

Influenced by the stride piano of Fats Waller and Teddy Wilson, Winston turned from rock and R&B to jazz, and soon released his first solo piano effort, Ballads and Blues 1972, after which he mysteriously retired from music for the next several years.Discovering the music of the legendary New Orleans R&B pianist Professor Longhair in 1979 was the epiphany Winston was seeking to inspire a return to performing; signing to the Windham Hill label, between 1980 and 1982 he recorded a trilogy of albums -- Autumn, December, and Winter Into Spring -- of impressionistic, seasonal-themed piano musings which laid much of the groundwork for the new age boom to follow.

Winston's music continued to grow in popularity and influence in the years to follow, but in typically enigmatic fashion, he virtually dropped from sight for the remainder of the 1980s, resurfacing only in 1986 to score a reading of The Velveteen Rabbit by actress Meryl Streep. Finally, in 1991, Winston returned to action, completing his seasonal cycle with Summer; Forest followed three years later. In 1996, he paid tribute to another of his greatest influences with Linus & Lucy: The Music of Vince Guaraldi. A compilation album, All the Seasons of George Winston, was released in the spring of 1998, followed a year later by Plains.

The new millennium brought anniversary editions of several of his landmark albums, including Autumn, December, and Winter Into Spring, as well as the 2001 album Remembrance: A Memorial Benefit, which was Winston's response to the tragic events of September 11, 2001. His 2002 release, Night Divides the Day, focused on the music of one of his earliest influences, the Doors. Montana: A Love Story from 2004 was inspired by Winston's childhood in Montana. An impressive solo piano outing, Gulf Coast Blues & Impressions, released as a benefit set for hurricane relief, appeared from RCA in 2006. (Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide)

Dave Brubeck, We're All Together Again The First Time

During 1968-72, Brubeck's Quartet usually featured baritonist Gerry Mulligan, bassist Jack Six and drummer Alan Dawson. For this very logical record, altoist Paul Desmond (who was with Brubeck from 1951-67) makes the group a quintet and his interplay with Mulligan is consistently delightful. Together they are heard live in Europe on "Truth", "Mulligan's", "Unfinished Woman"," "Rotterdam Blues" and a definitive 16-minute rendition of "Take Five" In addition, Desmond is showcased on "Koto Song" and as an encore Brubeck plays a lighthearted if brief "Sweet Georgia Brown." ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide.

Charlie Haden, The Montreal Tapes - Jazz

On the 10th Montréal Jazz Fest, Charlie was given 'carte blanche', the presence of the young virtuoso Gonzalo Rubalcaba alongside Charlie Haden was just as exciting. In 1989, the 'Festival International de Jazz de Montréal' organized a series of eight tribute concerts to Charlie Haden. On July 3, 1989 with Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Paul Motian.
